Present the block. Carry it with both hands to a mat or table; this models care for the material.

Remove the cylinders. Lift each one by its knob using thumb and two fingers, placing them randomly on the mat.

Refit by size. The child compares diameter and height by eye and by touch and returns each cylinder to its exact socket.

Let errors teach. A misplaced cylinder means one will not fit at the end; the child self-corrects without adult input.

Raise the challenge. Work with two blocks at once, mix all 40 cylinders, or try refitting blindfolded for advanced sensorial work.
Start with one block: Block 1 (diameter changes, height constant) is the classic entry point; let your child remove all cylinders, mix them, and refit them.
Resist correcting: the material is self-correcting; a cylinder in the wrong socket leaves another that will not fit, and the child discovers this alone.
Add difficulty gradually: move to Blocks 2 and 3 where two or three dimensions change at once, then combine two blocks for a bigger challenge.
