Lay out 3 cards on a flat surface. Always with the yellow line at the bottom.

Show your child the baseline. This yellow line tells us which way is down. The number sits on it.

Trace the number with two fingers (index and middle). Start from the correct stroke point.

Say the number aloud as you trace. Three.

Let your child trace. Follow your finger first, then on their own.

Pair with paper writing. After tracing, ask your child to write the same digit in a notebook.

Return cards to the box when finished. Sorting back reinforces the order 0 to 9.
Pick 3 numbers at a time. Start with visually distinct ones (e.g. 1, 4, 7). Skip lookalikes (6 and 9) for now.
Show the yellow baseline. Yellow stays at the bottom; the number sits on yellow like it sits on the floor.
Demonstrate tracing. Use index and middle fingers together. Trace the number in the correct stroke direction. Say the number aloud.
Let your child trace. Same fingers, same direction. Watch they do not go backwards.

Add 6 and 9 later. Once individual numbers are familiar, introduce the pair together so the child sees the difference.
