Product information

The Kidken Montessori Stamp Game is a wooden math manipulative kit for Indian children aged 3 to 10 years. The 4-compartment box holds 155 colour-coded stamps representing 1, 10, 100 and 1000 - plus coloured coins and skittles - giving children a tactile way to master addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of 2 to 4 digit numbers. By physically swapping 10 stamps of one colour for 1 stamp of the next value, children SEE place value and regrouping happen in their hands.

At a glance

  • 155 colour-coded wooden stamps: 45 green (1s), 45 blue (10s), 45 red (100s), 20 large green (1000s).
  • Teaches all 4 operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division with 2 to 4 digit numbers.
  • Place value made physical: colour coding aligns with Montessori's golden bead material.
  • Everything included: 4-compartment wooden box, stamps, coloured coins for zero, coloured skittles for the divisor, 1 large green 1000 skittle.
  • Builds 6 skills: place value, four operations mastery, regrouping/borrowing, fine motor control, concentration, math confidence.
  • Aligned with NEP 2020 foundational and preparatory stage math goals.
  • Made in India, solid wood with non-toxic sealed finish, AZO-free dyes.
  • 5 to 7 year usable lifespan: scales from age 3 colour sorting through age 10 long division.

1
Set up the work mat. Place the open box at the top. Draw 4 columns on the mat labelled 1, 10, 100, 1000.
2
Lay the first number. Example: for 234, place 4 green, 3 blue, 2 red stamps in the matching columns.
3
Lay the second number below. For + 158: 8 green, 5 blue, 1 red stamps.
4
Count from the smallest column. Greens: 4 + 8 = 12. Swap 10 greens for 1 blue. Leave 2 greens behind.
5
Carry to the next column. Place the new blue with the others. Count blues: 3 + 5 + 1 = 9. Reds: 2 + 1 = 3.
6
Read the result. From the columns: 3 reds, 9 blues, 2 greens = 392. Write it down.
7
Repeat for subtraction, multiplication, division. Same principle, different actions: borrowing, repeated addition, sharing between skittles.
Start with 1-digit addition. Use only the green (1) stamps. Lay out 3 + 4 with stamps, then count and write the answer.
Introduce place value with colour. Once 1-digit is comfortable, bring in blue (10) stamps. Build numbers like 24 = two blues + four greens.
Move to 2-digit addition with regrouping. When 10 green stamps gather in a column, physically swap them for 1 blue stamp — the child SEES regrouping happen.
Use red (100) and the large green (1000) for bigger numbers. Add red stamps for hundreds; the 1000 stamps and skittle for thousands.
Teach subtraction with the reverse swap. Borrowing becomes visual — exchange 1 blue for 10 greens to subtract.
Multiplication = repeated addition. 3 × 24 means laying out 24 three times. The child counts and regroups.
Division uses skittles. Distribute stamps equally between coloured skittles to model dividing.
Sessions: 15-25 minutes a day works best. Praise process, not speed.

What age group is the Montessori Stamp Game best for?

The Stamp Game is recommended for children aged 3 to 10 years. It's ideally suited for:

  • Ages 3 to 5 (Montessori-style introduction): Colour recognition, sorting, and 1-digit addition with adult guidance.
  • Ages 5 to 7 (early primary): 2 and 3-digit addition and subtraction with regrouping; place value mastery.
  • Ages 7 to 10 (primary): 4-digit operations, multiplication, long division — independent practice.

Children under 3 should not use the kit unsupervised — stamps and skittles are small parts and may pose a choking hazard.

How does the Stamp Game teach addition, subtraction, multiplication and division?

The Stamp Game makes the four operations physical and visual, so children understand WHY the math works — not just memorise procedures.

  • Addition: Lay out both numbers as stamps, combine, then swap groups of 10 for the next-value stamp. Carrying becomes a real action.
  • Subtraction: Lay out the larger number; remove stamps for the smaller one. When you need more units, swap a 10 for ten 1s. Borrowing made concrete.
  • Multiplication: Repeat a number's stamps as many times as the multiplier. 3 × 24 = lay 24 three times, then count and regroup.
  • Division: Distribute stamps equally between the coloured skittles. Each skittle represents one group; whatever each skittle gets is the quotient.

Once children master operations with the stamps, they transition smoothly to written long-form math.

Is the wooden Stamp Game safe for my child?

Yes — when used as intended for ages 3 and above. The wood is non-toxic with sealed finish, edges are smooth and sanded, and dyes are AZO-free.

Safety note: Stamps and skittles are small parts. Always use under adult supervision. Not suitable for children under 3 who may put small parts in their mouth.

What do the different coloured stamps represent?

Each colour represents one decimal place value — the foundation of how our number system works:

  • Green stamps (1s): 45 pieces representing units. The smallest building block.
  • Blue stamps (10s): 45 pieces representing tens. 10 green stamps swap for 1 blue.
  • Red stamps (100s): 45 pieces representing hundreds. 10 blue stamps swap for 1 red.
  • Large green stamps (1000s): 20 pieces representing thousands. 10 red stamps swap for 1 large green.

This colour coding aligns with Montessori's golden bead material, helping children transition between learning aids smoothly.

How long will my child use the Stamp Game for?

The Stamp Game has a 5 to 7 year usable lifespan because it scales with your child:

  • Age 3 to 4: Colour sorting, counting, recognising 1, 10, 100, 1000 as quantities.
  • Age 5 to 6: Addition and subtraction with regrouping up to 3 digits.
  • Age 7 to 8: 4-digit operations, multiplication, simple division.
  • Age 9 to 10: Long division, decimals introduction, multi-step word problems.

The wooden pieces are sturdy enough to be passed between siblings — many families use one Stamp Game across multiple children.
