Montessori Stamp Learning Game

The Stamp Game is recommended for children aged 3 to 10 years. It's ideally suited for:

• Ages 3 to 5 (Montessori-style introduction): Colour recognition, sorting, and 1-digit addition with adult guidance.
• Ages 5 to 7 (early primary): 2 and 3-digit addition and subtraction with regrouping; place value mastery.
• Ages 7 to 10 (primary): 4-digit operations, multiplication, long division — independent practice.

Children under 3 should not use the kit unsupervised — stamps and skittles are small parts and may pose a choking hazard.

The Stamp Game makes the four operations physical and visual, so children understand WHY the math works — not just memorise procedures.

• Addition: Lay out both numbers as stamps, combine, then swap groups of 10 for the next-value stamp. Carrying becomes a real action.
• Subtraction: Lay out the larger number; remove stamps for the smaller one. When you need more units, swap a 10 for ten 1s. Borrowing made concrete.
• Multiplication: Repeat a number's stamps as many times as the multiplier. 3 × 24 = lay 24 three times, then count and regroup.
• Division: Distribute stamps equally between the coloured skittles. Each skittle represents one group; whatever each skittle gets is the quotient.

Once children master operations with the stamps, they transition smoothly to written long-form math.

Each colour represents one decimal place value — the foundation of how our number system works:

• Green stamps (1s): 45 pieces representing units. The smallest building block.
• Blue stamps (10s): 45 pieces representing tens. 10 green stamps swap for 1 blue.
• Red stamps (100s): 45 pieces representing hundreds. 10 blue stamps swap for 1 red.
• Large green stamps (1000s): 20 pieces representing thousands. 10 red stamps swap for 1 large green.

This colour coding aligns with Montessori's golden bead material, helping children transition between learning aids smoothly.

The Stamp Game has a 5 to 7 year usable lifespan because it scales with your child:

• Age 3 to 4: Colour sorting, counting, recognising 1, 10, 100, 1000 as quantities.
• Age 5 to 6: Addition and subtraction with regrouping up to 3 digits.
• Age 7 to 8: 4-digit operations, multiplication, simple division.
• Age 9 to 10: Long division, decimals introduction, multi-step word problems.
