Snakes and Ladders are believed to have been invented in India as early as 2 BC. It surfaced under the name “Moksh path” again in the 13th century during the time of Sant Gyandev. It was intended as a game to instruct young children in morals and values, with each square representing a virtue/ fault. It was later colonized by the English and modified in its current avatar.
